Footloose
As many of you know or will soon know I am a HUGE fan of Footloose and Kevin Bacon!!!! Ok this morning on my way to work I learned from Lisa, thank you Lisa, that they (they being Hollywood) are going to remake Footloose. The worst part about this news was they want Zac Efron to play Ren (Ren is Kevin Bacon's character)!!!! Ummm ok wait, I will be the first person to say that Footloose, while being my favorite movie, is a cheesy and corny 80's movie. With that being said 1. Why would you remake it? 2. Only Kevin Bacon can play Kevin Bacon!!! And to top it all off they want to make it a musical. Oh yes my friend to read that right a MUSICAL!!!!! If you don't know Zac Efron is the Disney Channel kid in High School Musical. Ummm NO!!!! To make it worse according to one report Kevin Bacon has given Zac his blessing!!!! Vomit!!!!!
I'm done you can continue on with your day now, I needed to let that out. Attached are some articles. Monika Bartyzel in the first article feels me on this.
Thank you

Zac Efron to Star in 'Footloose' Remake

While I could whip out that oft-used sign of disgust: "I think I just hurled a little in mouth" just now, I really don't think that properly exemplifies my horror over this news. I'm tempted to whip out some yarn and knit a voodoo doll, but I don't think making a big building with the name "Paramount" on it will work the same as a little doll with body parts to stick pins into. I might be able to make some mysterious holes in the company's buildings, but that's not the same thing. So, I'll just gripe about the fact that the flipping crazy company has decided to make a remake of Footloose -- as a full-blown musical. Oh, yes. I think I finally believe that nothing is sacred. (Okay, I'll still hold out hope that Heathers is never, ever remade. If it is, someone will have to strap me down to keep me from revenge.)The word over at Variety is that director Kenny Ortega is in talks to helm and choreograph the remake, grabbing his High School Musical star Zac Efron to take over Kevin Bacon's role as the wild, dancing rebel, Ren McCormack. Oh, how I hope that this one slips into development hell, and those responsible for the project choke on the fumes. You've gotta cut loose this idea, Paramount. You just know this remake will lose all of the original's spark -- the dust and charisma will be wiped clean to reveal pretty, perfect, ever-smiling faces. In the original, Bacon made dancing look cool in the town where it was banned -- partially because he wasn't some Disney-fied young actor obsessed with musical movies. He was Chip Diller from Animal House, not pretty boy Troy from High School Musical. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to bang my head against the wall.

'Footloose' remake on the fast track
October 29, 2008
There's a new Ren coming up quickly on the horizon. After Zac Efron's stellar weekend at the box office in "High School Musical 3," Paramount has fast-tracked the remake of "Footloose," according to Variety. The remake will pair Efron with "HSM" director Kenny Ortega, Variety reported, and filming is likely to begin this spring.Although the original wasn't a musical, the new version reportedly will include songs written specifically for the remake as well as the original's hits. Earlier this month, "Footloose" star Kevin Bacon gave young Efron his blessing, and Efron is pumped about the endorsement."It's great," he told MTV News. "I couldn't be more excited. He's the man."Although Efron dances in "HSM" and will be dancing a lot more in "Footloose," he said he doesn't consider himself a dancer.
